Truckers Contribute $30,000 to Hospice in
a Poker Run.
More than 600 motorcyclists participated in the 2nd annual Truckin' for Hospice run Aug. 16 in Stockton, Calif.
Interstate Truck Center served as the registration and staging area for the Truckin' for Hospice poker run, sponsored by California's San Joaquin Valley trucking industry. The event raised more than $30,000 for Community Hospice of Modesto, Calif., and Hospice of San Joaquin in Stockton, and drew riders from the California Central Valley, the San Francisco Bay Area and Northern Nevada.
"The trucking industry is based on serving the community needs and its support of Hospice is just an extension of that community support," said Don Reeve, sponsor, motorcyclist and owner of Reeve Trucking in Stockton. "All of us in the trucking industry are pleased to support an event that raises money for an effective organization like Hospice and have a lot of fun in the process."
From Stockton, the 150-mile poker run took the riders through several small Sierra foothill communities with food and fun along the way. The first stop in Clements served smoothies and pastries; at the 2nd stop in Mokelumne Hill, the band Alias played while chili was served; the 3rd stop in Murphys served hot links; the 4th stop in Jamestown, BBQ sandwiches were served, and at the final stop in Modesto, everyone enjoyed ice cream and Rolaids.
Commemorative T-shirts were provided to all riders and ride pins given to early registrants. Raffle prizes were donated by trucking companies and suppliers from California's Central Valley.
Sponsors of the event included the California Trucking Assn.-San Joaquin Unit, Peterbilt Motors Co., Reeve Trucking, Freightliner, Mitchell's Harley Davidson, and 60 other companies and individuals related to the trucking industry.
